Ozaukee boys race to fourth in the dark
An impressive season continued for the Ozaukee High School boys’ cross country team last Friday.
The Warriors scored 168 points and took fourth at the Nightfall Classic Invite on Tuscumbia Golf Course in Green Lake.
“There were 22 complete teams in Division 3, and taking fourth place at a very competitive meet is a great accomplishment for our boys’ team,” coach Andrew Pfeuffer said.
Nick Schubert took fifth of 231 runners, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 55 seconds.
“He broke 17 minutes for the first time this season. Nick has been steadily decreasing his time over the past three weeks and is helping set the tone for our boys’ team,” Pfeuffer said.
Sterling Schanen was 18th in a personal-record 18:06.
“Sterling is a competitor and thrived on the big invite atmosphere,” Pfeuffer said.
Wyatt Borchardt was 34th in 18:48. Fritz Hoffmann was 58th in a personal-record 19:26. Evan Caswell was 65th in a personal-record 19:41 and Carsen Isselman was 126th in a personal-record 21:02.
Home School Eagles won with 112 points. Brookwood has 114 and Fennimore scored 135.
The Ozaukee girls finished sixth of 20 teams with 213 points.
Madison Glaeser was 15th in a personal-record 21:44.
“Madison was able to break 22 minutes for the first time in her career,” Pfeuffer said.
Eva VanMinsel was 43rd in 23:10. Ashlyn Schubert was 47th in a personal-record 23:20. Emily Luza was 63rd in a season-best 24:14. Lilia Steinert was 70th in a personal-record 24:26 and Maggie Hoffmann was 78th in a personal-record 24:39.
“Our girls did a great job of moving up throughout the race and never settling. They also attacked the downhills and finished strong,” Pfeuffer said.
The Warriors run in the Port Washington Invite at Tendick Park in the Town of Saukville on Thursday, Oct. 9.
