One-car I-43 crash sends two to hospital

A one-car rollover crash on I-43 north of Highland Drive in the Town of Port Washington at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday injured the driver and passenger. A black 2002 BMW four-door car from Illinois was traveling north when the driver lost control, left the roadway and overturned several times before hitting a tree, according to a release from the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office. The driver, a 40-year-old woman from Chicago, was seriously injured and taken to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa via Flight For Life helicopter. The passenger, a 7-year-old boy from Chicago, was injured and taken to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa. High speed and erratic driving appear to be factors in the crash, the release said. The investigation is ongoing. Port Washington Fire and Rescue, Grafton Rescue, the Port Washington Police Department, Flight For Life and Lanser Garage and Towing assisted with the incident. Photo by Sam Arendt
