Now hiring: Schools looking for rec coordinator
The Cedar Grove-Belgium School Board last week approved a job description for a half-time community recreation program coordinator.
The coordinator will oversee the pool, including swimming lessons and other activities, and the fitness center, including exercise classes and programs and equipment maintenance and replacement.
Among the other duties are managing recreation programs, camps, leagues and adult education and collaborating with youth sports’ leaders.
Director of Business Services Kris DeBruine recommended the salary for the position not to go higher than $20,000, since starting salary for full-time certified staff members in the district is $40,000.
The position does not include benefits. A .75 position — working 30 hours per week — is required for those, DeBruine said.
The board unanimously approved the position at a special meeting on Nov. 29. All seven members attended.
The job has been posted internally.
The board initially discussed creating a recreation department in summer.
“We’ve got phenomenal facilities here. There are some really neat possibilities,” Athletic Director Scott Parsons said. “This could be a huge thing for this community and this district.”
