Grafton High School has chosen an assistant to succeed Shaun Behrend as its next head football coach.

Jim Norris, a physical-education teacher and assistant coach for the Black Hawks the past two seasons, has been named to the top varsity position.

Norris’ coaching experience includes serving as an assistant on the Sun Prairie High School football staff and as a student assistant/assistant offensive line coach at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Norris was a four-time letterwinner in football at UW-Whitewater and a member of three of its national championship teams.

“I would like thank the Grafton High School and district administration for giving me the opportunity to be Grafton’s head football coach,” Norris said in a statement.

“Coach Behrend did an excellent job getting this program back on its feet, and my goal is to build upon the positive direction this program is going.

“We have a great group of young men that have been working extremely hard this offseason and can’t wait to get this thing rolling.”

In 2017, Grafton went 3-8 in Behrend’s second season as coach. Two years ago, Behrend was hired as the Black Hawks’ fourth varsity coach in four years.

“Grafton is an excellent community and deserves an excellent football team. I look forward to seeing the community out supporting the team on Friday Nights. Go Black Hawks,” Norris said.

This spring, Behrend announced he was  leaving Grafton to take a job outside the area. He has since been named football coach at Green Bay East.
