A new group is being organized for mothers seeking to network with like-minded parents on holistic health and green living options for their children.

On Thursday, March 1, the Holistic Moms Network will have a kick off event from 6 to 8 p.m. at Creekside Music & Naturals in Grafton.

“I definitely think alternative and holistic care has been growing rapidly in just the past few years,” the group’s co-leader Ashley Brooks said. “People are always looking for alternatives, and this is a great support group to encourage moms and let them know that there is a tribe out there for you.”

The Holistic Moms Network is a national nonprofit organization that has 120 chapters across the country. Brooks and Kat Chronis are organizers for the new Ozaukee County chapter and are hoping to have about 40 people join their group that will meet on the first Thursday of every month.

The group is open to moms, dads, grandparents and other caregivers, and it welcomes volunteer guest speakers to talk about a variety of holistic topics from extended breastfeeding to vaccinations.

Brooks said she began leaning toward a greener lifestyle after she began having children.

“As soon as I had babies, I started to really think about what kind of products I had in my home and then got into greener living and healthier, holistic choices. It opened up my eyes,” she said.

Brooks said being a mother can be a lonely experience, especially if one chooses a holistic approach to parenting, which can go against the traditional norms of parenting.

“Some of the holistic health options can be very controversial, and that can be a lonely experience if you don’t know where to find support,” she said.

The network encourages new moms to trust their instincts and to educate themselves about the pros and cons of health care options.
