Nature takes its course while Grafon ponders fate of dam, millpond

While Grafton staff members research the options of fixing a gate in the Bridge Street dam that failed earlier this year, essentially draining the village’s landmark Milwaukee River millpond, or removing the dam, nature has begun to take its course. Mudflats north of the Highway 60 bridge are turning green with new vegetation and blending in with Veterans Memorial Park, where Gabriel Piedot was fishing last week. He would have been standing in roughly waist-deep water if the millpond still existed.   Photos by Sam Arendt
