Millers help Ozaukee eclipse .500 mark

The Ozaukee High School boys’ basketball team has put together a four-game winning streak to lift it above .500. The Warriors as of Monday were 7-5 overall and 6-5 in the Big East Conference South Division.

Ozaukee opened last week with a 71-52 rout over host Mishicot Jan. 12.

“It was a great team victory,” Ozaukee coach Bob Domach said. “Everyone was able to play significant minutes. It makes the long bus ride home more enjoyable.”

The Warriors built an insurmountable, 41-13, halftime lead and cruised to the easy win.

The Miller cousins led the way. Noah Miller scored 22 points to lead all scorers. Matt Miller scored 16.

Simon Bares scored eight points and Sawyer Kowalkowski scored seven.

The Warriors played unselfish ball, tallying 19 assists. Noah Miller dished out six and Jesse Schauer had five.

Matt Miller and Braxton Gahan each had six rebounds.

Mishicot was led by Ryan Brown with 17 points and Ethan Raube with nine points.

Last Thursday, the Warriors blew out visiting Sheboygan Christian, 60-28.

“They are very well coached and you never exactly know what wrinkles they are going to throw at you. We played really sound defensively,” Domach said.

Ozaukee led 26-11 at the break.

Three Warriors scored in double digits, led by Noah Miller with 19 and Matt Miller with 17. Matt also had 10 rebounds. Noah had four assists.

Simon Bares scored 10 points, Bret Hamm had eight rebounds and Jesse Schauer had seven points, nine rebounds and five assists.

In a rare Saturday afternoon contest, Ozaukee blasted host North Fond du Lac, 63-35, in a non-conference game.

“We wanted to schedule a bigger school,” Domach said.

“The theme from the last several games has been how well our defense is playing. We held them to eight points in the first half. Everyone is working hard and buying in on the defensive end.”

The Warriors held a 28-8 halftime lead.

Noah Miller led the way with 27 points, eight rebounds and six steals. His tally included six three-point baskets.

Schauer scored nine points and dished out four assists. Bares scored eight points and Gahan finished with 11 rebounds and eight points.

The Warriors started their winning streak on Jan. 8, beating Random Lake, 48-44.

The Warriors were scheduled to host Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah (3-6 Big East) Tuesday. On Friday, Ozaukee plays at Hilbert (0-14 overall) and on Tuesday, Jan. 26, Ozaukee hosts rival Cedar Grove-Belgium (7-4 Big East). The Warriors beat the Rockets in Cedar Grove, 58-41, on Dec. 21.
CG-Belgium tops Kohler on the road

The Cedar Grove-Belgium boys won at Kohler, 65-56, last Thursday.

“That was really good. That’s a tough place to win,” coach Derek Wimmer said.

Logan Ketterhagen led the team with 19 points on 4-for-9 shooting from the field, including one-three pointer, and he made 10 of 13 free throws.

Logan Arrowood had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Sam Peiffer had 13 points.

Wimmer said his team “stepped up our energy” in the second half, playing good man-to-man defense and scoring on fast breaks.

The Rockets, 7-5 overall and 6-5 in the Big East, hosted winless Hilbert on Tuesday. They host Random Lake on Friday and play at Ozaukee on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
