Miller drafted one year ago

Major League Baseball held its annual draft this week, which may bring back memories of 53 weeks ago when a Fredonia teenager joined the professional ranks of America’s pastime.

Noah Miller, a 2021 graduate of Ozaukee High who starred at shortstop for the Warriors, was selected with the 36th pick — the last in the first round — by the Minnesota Twins.

It was 10 p.m. Sunday, July 11, and within minutes of his immediate family going crazy, 20-some extended family members and friends streamed into the family’s Fredonia home to celebrate the moment.

Noah spent about 90 minutes chatting online with his older brother Owen, a starting infielder for the Cleveland Guardians who was taken 84th by the San Diego Padres in 2018.

Noah played with the Florida Complex League last fall and hit .238 in 22 games with two homes runs, a triple and 14 RBI.

This season, he is playing with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, the Twins’ single-A affiliate, and is leading the team in average at .238 and runs scored with 42. He has two home runs, 16 RBI and 50 walks at the All-Star break.
