Military Historians program to feature Iraq War veteran

Iraq War veteran Andy Weins will  provide insight into a theater of a fairly recent conflict during a Metropolitan Milwaukee Military Historians “Twenty Years of a Citizen Soldier” program on Monday, May 20, in Grafton.

During his two tours of duty in Iraq, Weins, a U.S. Army sergeant first class who lives in Mequon, was on convoy duty for 93 combat missions, logging 40,000 miles hauling refueling tankers.

He will share his experiences, including the explosion of a device under his vehicle that was so powerful the blast lifted it off the road.

Weins was also stationed at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he guarded high-risk detainees from the Global War on Terrorism.

The presentation and a buffet dinner will be held at the Rose-Harms American Legion Hall, 1540 13th Ave., Grafton

Doors open at 5:15 p.m. and the dinner is served at 6:30 p.m.

Admission for the dinner and presentation is $25. A limited number of $10 seats for the presentation only, which will begin around 7 p.m., are also available.
