Michael Harrington

Michael N. Harrington, 76, of Port Washington died at the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton Friday, March 15.

Mr. Harrington was born in Port Washington on March 8, 1943, to Michael and Dorothy VandeBoom Harrington.

He served in the Vietnam War as military police officer from 1964 to 1966.

On Aug. 19, 1967, he married Dorothy Bares at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Mr. Harrington worked in the grocery business, where he held various positions over the years. His family said he was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life, such as gardening and joking with his grandchildren.

Mr. Harrington is survived by his wife Dorothy of Port Washington; daughters Michele (Robert) Mueller and Lynn (Michael) Dreier, both of Port Washington; grandchildren Jacob Mueller, Noah Mueller, Caitlin Dreier and Nicholas Dreier; sisters Marianne Gundrum of West Bend and Colleen (Robert) Ruhnke of Kewaskum; and brother Thomas (Maggie) of California.

He is further survived by sisters-in-law Betty Gottsacker of Shawno, Leona Bares, Kathleen Bares and Mary Bares, all of Belgium; and brothers-in-law Donald (Julie) Bares and Bert (Jean) Bares, both of Belgium.  

Mr. Harrington was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law Les Gundrum, Robert Bares, Kenneth Bares, Gene Bares and Gene Gottsacker.

A Mass of Christian burial was to be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, in Port Washington with full military honors.  

Visitation was to be at the church Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. until the service.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery on Thursday, March 21.
