Melvin Olson

 

Melvin “Ole” Olson, 72, died at his Port Washington home Thursday, Jan. 24.

Mr. Olson was born in Omaha, Neb., July 14, 1946, to Melvin and Ruth Hensel Olson.

He served in the United States Navy in Hawaii.

While serving he met Susan McClellan and they were married Feb. 14, 1970, in Hawaii.  

In the late 1980s, the couple moved to Port Washington.

He worked in telecommunications as a field service engineer for Verint Systems and traveled the world extensively.  

Mr. Olson’s family said he loved his role as husband, father and grandfather and spent as much time as he could with his family. 

He liked working with electronics and gadgets.

He also enjoyed baking pies and being a grill master.

Mr. Olson is survived by his wife Susan of Port Washington; children Michael (Karen) of Fredonia and Sarah Olson of Port Washington, and granddaughter Genevieve Olson.  

He is further survived by siblings Richard of Olympia, Wash., Pat Krueger of Fargo; N.D., and Steven (Vera) of Lacey, Wash.

Mr. Olsen was preceded in death by his parents and brother Tommy.

Funeral services have been held with final interment to be in Hawaii.

Poole Funeral Home, Port Washington, handled the arrangements.
