Mary Schroeder

Mary E. Schroeder, 83, of Cedarburg and formerly of Grafton and Glendale, died at Lasata Care Center Saturday, Oct. 6.

Mrs. Schroeder was born in Milwaukee on Aug. 7, 1935, to Jerome and Florence Lynch Holzbauer.

On Oct. 14, 1958, she married John Schroeder. The couple lived in West Allis for 13 years, before moving to Glendale and eventually settled in Grafton in 1998.

Mrs. Schroeder was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Grafton where she was an active member of a singing group that went to area nursing homes to entertain residents. She and her husband were Eucharistic ministers for the church.

Mrs. Schroeder worked as a clerk for Kohl’s at the Bayshore Town Center in Glendale for 20 years. Her grandchildren fondly remember visiting her at the department store where she would help them “pick out wonderful items with their grandma.”

Her family said she enjoyed knitting, bowling and traveling with her husband. They took trips to Hawaii, Pennsylvania, California and other places out west, as well as numerous cruises.

“They definitely liked to travel. I can’t remember all the places they went,” her granddaughter Amy said.

Mrs. Schroeder is survived by her sons Daniel, William and Thomas Schroeder, all of Brown Deer; son-in-law David Weickert of West Bend; grandchildren Amy, David, Brandon and Amber; and two great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by her brother Jerome (JoEl) Holzbauer of Milwaukee; sisters Ann (Joe) Linskin of Elm Grove and Susie (Mark) Gormican of Wauwatosa.

Mrs. Schroeder was preceded in death by her husband John and daughter Therese Weickert.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 12, at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.

Eernisse Funeral Home, Cedarburg, handled the arrangements.
