Mary H. Federspiel

Mary H. Federspiel passed away peacefully at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton on Oct. 22, 2024. She was 93 years old.

Mary was born in Port Washington to John and Mary (nee Donas) Kartanas on Nov. 7, 1930.

She attended Port Washington High School, Class of 1948, and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She proudly graduated from college with a 4.0 grade point average.

On May 14, 1955, she married Joseph Federspiel at St. Ambrose Church in Port Washington.

Mary spent her career doing paralegal probate work, much of which was at von Briesen & Roper, S.C. She volunteered at Lincoln Elementary School and the W.J. Niederkorn Library.

She loved watching her grandchildren in sporting events, concerts and plays, as well as traveling and going on long walks, especially on the beaches in Port Washington. Mary loved meeting new people and was a ravenous reader of mysteries and an avid Packers and Brewers fan.

Mary is survived by daughter Janet (Mike) Yuhas; grandchildren Mallory (Tyler) Metoxen, Alex (Danielle) Metoxen, Trevor Metoxen and Cassidy Yuhas (Zack Snyder); and one great-grandchild, Roon Dean Metoxen.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Federspiel; her parents; brother John Kartanas; sister Ann (Howard) Schuknecht, nephew James Schuknecht; nephew Richard Schuknecht’s wife Dawn Schuknecht; brothers-in-law Norbert (Hiltrude) Federspiel, George (Angie) Federspiel, Brother Conrad Federspiel CP and  Carl (Loretta) Federspiel; sisters-in-law Margaret Federspiel and Rita Federspiel; and nephew Richard Federspiel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, at St. John XXIII Catholic Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington, WI 53074. The family will receive visitors at the church from 10 a.m. until the service at noon.

Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Port Washington. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Mary’s name to the Food Pantry Inc. in Port Washington or the Ozaukee Food Alliance.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lincoln Village, Port Washington, and Aurora Medical Center, Grafton, for their care and support.
