Though you wouldn’t know it by this week’s belated April Fool’s wintry tease of frigid temperatures and occasional flurries, warmer weather and summer fun is just around the corner.

Two turns of the calendar page to June brings the start of the Village of Saukville’s popular annual farmers market, which is slated to begin June 13 and run through Oct. 24. The market will be closed July 4 and Labor Day weekend.

The 2020 Saukville farmers market was scuttled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Village President Barb Dickmann is eagerly awaiting the market’s return to Veterans Park at “The Triangle” in downtown Saukville, 100 S. Mill St., adjacent to Highway 33.

“I’m excited that it’s back on,” she said. “I’m happy we’ll be able to offer it once again. People should feel safe coming there.”

Running on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Saukville farmers market features fresh in-season Wisconsin produce grown by area farmers, as well as greenhouse and floral products and artisan-quality crafts.

Village Administrator Dawn Wagner said the farmers market, established in 2010, averages around 10 to 12 vendors weekly selling a variety of goods, including seasonal fruit and produce, jams and jellies, salsas and sauces, maple syrup, bakery, jarred pickles, cut flowers and crafts.

Dickmann said she frequents the market, for its “beautiful” array of flowers, produce and crafts.

“I love picking up fresh things from there,” Dickmann said, noting she’s also a fan of the Saukville farmers market’s “very family oriented, very gathered” ambiance at downtown’s Veterans Memorial Park.

“The triangle is a gathering place,” she said. “It brings people together downtown.”

Wagner said the Saukville farmers market adds “quality of life” for village residents and also serves as a economic and tourism driver for the village as it “draws people to the Saukville community.”

Dickmann agreed, noting the market’s “very visible” site in downtown Saukville frequently catches the attention of visiting motorists passing through the village on Highway 33, enticing them to stop, visit and spend money in the community.
