Man who triggered 36-hour standoff now competent to stand trial

The 37-year-old Fredonia man accused of firing high-powered guns from his house, threatening to shoot law enforcement officers and holding authorities at bay for 36 hours in May is now competent to stand trial on the six felonies he faces.

The ruling last week by Ozaukee County Circuit Court Judge Sandy Williams means the case against Matthew K. Novak can proceed.
