Man charged with beating on truck after blocking road

A 52-year-old man accused of blocking a Town of Fredonia road with his truck, breaking the windshield of a vehicle that was forced to stop and threatening deputies who responded was charged last week in Ozaukee County Circuit Court with multiple felonies.

Ryan W. Kohn of the Town of Fredonia is charged with three counts of threatening to cause bodily harm to an officer and fifth-offense drunken driving, as well as misdemeanor counts of driving after his license was revoked, failure to comply with an order to install an ignition interlock device on his vehicle, criminal damage to property, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct.

According to a criminal complaint, Ozaukee County sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of N6291 Clearview Dr., near where Kohn lives, by a driver who reported a man was “beating on his truck” and smashing its windshield.

The driver later told deputies he was driving on Clearview Drive when a man later identified as Kohn parked a flatbed trailer across the road, blocking traffic.

The man said Kohn got out of his truck and began yelling at him before jumping on the hood of his truck and smashing the windshield. The man said he feared for his safety, so he got out of his truck and ran into a field, the complaint states.

When deputies arrived, they found Kohn sitting on the hood of the man’s truck. The windshield was heavily damaged, the body of the truck had dents in it and Kohn had blood on him, according to the complaint.

Kohn told the first deputy to respond to “call for (expletive) backup,” refused to get off the truck and began cursing at him, the complaint states.

Kohn’s son was nearby, and when he attempted to talk to his father, Kohn told him not to move or listen to deputies, then told deputies, “You touch him, I will (expletive) bury you,” according to the complaint.

Kohn refused to comply with deputies’ commands and their efforts to pull him off the truck, telling them, “I will break your (expletive) face,” the complaint states. He was ultimately subdued with a taser.

Kohn smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, was slurring his words and was unsteady on his feet. When asked if he had been drinking, Kohn said, “Yeah, about 20,” according to the complaint.

Kohn, whose driver’s license was revoked because of a previous operating while intoxicated conviction and did not have an ignition interlock device installed in violation of a court order, refused to take a breath test.

He was taken to Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, and while he was waiting for a sample of his blood to be drawn, he told three deputies, “I can punch you a lot (expletive) more, remember that,” and “I can hunt you all down.”

During a July 27 court hearing, Ozaukee County Circuit Judge Sandy Williams set bail for Kohn at $15,000 and ordered him to maintain absolute sobriety, not to enter businesses that sell alcohol and to submit to alcohol monitoring if released from jail.
