Man charged after running a stop sign
An 18-year-old Saukville man was charged Monday with reckless driving causing great bodily harm after he allegedly ran a stop sign at Green Bay Road and Cedar Creek Road and was struck by a motorcycle carrying two people.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Ozaukee County Circuit Court, a video camera atop a nearby building showed a Kia sport utility vehicle driven by Cayden Douglas Pegelow was traveling east on Cedar Creek Road at 9:51 p.m. on May 19.
The Kia failed to stop at the stop sign at the railroad tracks there and then did not stop at Green Bay Road, turning north.
The motorcycle, which the video showed was traveling at a “reasonable speed,” struck the Kia in the rear driver side quarter panel, causing the Kia to spin 180 degrees and face west.
Pegelow told investigators that the motorcycle was “flying.”
Pegelow’s mother arrived at the scene and became upset when the motorcyclist yelled at Pegelow, according to the complaint.
The motorcycle driver and a passenger were both taken to a hospital by ambulance and treated for their injuries. The motorcyclist suffered a ruptured right testicle, which was removed, according to the complaint.
Reckless driving causing great bodily harm is a Class H felony. If convicted, Pegelow could be sentenced up to six years in prison and fined up to $10,000.
Pegelow is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Aug. 5, according to online court records.
