Man, 66, who overdosed faces drug charges

A 66-year-old Saukville man who overdosed on drugs in January is now charged in Ozaukee County Circuit Court with possession of narcotics.

Terry A. Neumann, who is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, failed to appear for his initial court appearance last week. A warrant was issued and he has since been arrested.

According to a criminal complaint, a police officer who was called to the home of Neumann’s father at 1:49 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, found emergency medical workers tending to Neumann, who was unconscious but breathing, in a basement bedroom.

On a TV stand in the bedroom, the officer saw a makeshift pipe often used to smoke drugs and a baggie containing an unknown substance, the complaint states.

Neumann was given Narcan, a medication used to reverse the effects of opioid drugs, and started to regain consciousness. He was taken to an area hospital.

Authorities obtained a search warrant and recovered the pipe and baggie from the house. The substance inside of it tested positive for opiates, according to the complaint.

When interviewed by police, Neumann said he was diagnosed with cancer several years ago and used cocaine to help him deal with pain, the complaint states.

He said he smokes cocaine and on the day of the overdose he took “one hit” from his pipe and immediately knew something was wrong. He said it was like he was in a tunnel and had to focus on staying awake, according to the complaint.

Neumann said he was told at the hospital that he had fentanyl in his system even though he thought he bought cocaine from his dealer, the complaint states.
