Lucille Wester

Mrs. Lucille Wester of Port Washington passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at Lawlis Family Hospice Center in Mequon while surrounded by her family. She was 95 years old.

Lucille was born in Milwaukee on Aug. 2, 1930, the daughter of Dominic and Emily (nee Wetor) Schmitz. She grew up on the family farm in Dacada and attended local schools, graduating from Port Washington High School with the Class of 1948.

On April 14, 1951, Lucille was united in marriage with James Wester at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Dacada. The couple settled in Port Washington and started their family. Jim preceded Lucille in death in 2022.

Mrs. Wester had been a long-time employee of the City of Port Washington, serving as the water utility clerk. She retired in 1996. She had been an election poll volunteer for 15 years and a member of the Port Washington Senior Center.

A faithful member of St. John XXIII Catholic Parish, Lucille also helped with funeral luncheons for many years.

She enjoyed golfing and played with the Hawthorne Honeys group. She was quite proud of her short game and Best Putter trophy, and also enjoyed bowling, a good game of sheepshead and dominos.

Lucille enjoyed nature and found pleasure in simply watching the birds and squirrels outside her window. She and Jim loved strolling through town, with Coal Dock Park a favorite destination. She also liked spending time with her daughter and daughter-in-law shopping for flowers and plants.

Survivors include her children Gerald Wester of Grafton, Brian (Kathy) Wester of Cedarburg and Jean (Curt) Cash of Hartford. She is further survived by six grandchildren, Andrea (Andy) Bosanec, Alyssa (Greg) Ritger, Emily Wester, Mike Wester, Eric (Erin) Wester and Teri (Rick) Hayes, 10 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Adeline (the late Harvey) Schmitz, brother-in-law Gordon (the late Mary) Thill, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Serena, two brothers, Harvey and Donald (the late Mary Margaret) Schmitz, brother-in-law Bert (the late Verena) Wester and sisters-in-law Beatrice (the late Herb) Krier and Blanche (the late Robert) Thill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside over the Mass. The family will receive guests at the church on Thursday, Dec. 18, from 4 p.m. until Mass begins at 6 p.m.

Lucille will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Mausoleum the following day.
