Lion’s Den footbridge out of commission

A footbridge at Lion’s Den Nature Preserve in the Town of Grafton will remain out of commission through the summer as an engineering and design effort continues to come up with a plan to replace it, Ozaukee County Planning and Parks Director Andrew Struck said last week. The bridge was damaged this winter after multiple trees fell on it during a wind shear storm that came through the area. “We don’t currently have a timeline for reconstructing the bridge as we are working on engineering and design and permitting for a full replacement,” Struck said.  One difficulty will be getting heavy equipment to the site, he said. Engineering, design and permitting should be completed by fall. The cost of rebuilding the bridge won’t be known until the design process is complete, he added.                                                                                                                                                                       Photo by Sam Arendt
