Library activities include Earth Day

April activities and programs, including book clubs and an Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration, have been announced by the Niederkorn Library in Port Washington.

Herb Thyme grab n’ go kits will be available on a first come, first served basis beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, April 7.

The kit includes dried herbs, herb seeds to plant and recipes to use the herbs.

A grief support group will meet in the community room from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays.

The free group, which is open to anyone experiencing grief, is facilitated by Colson Leach, bereavement coordinator with Compassus Hospice.

A career planning workshop will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday.

Emily Smith, a human resources consultant from Ansay & Associates, will provide one-on-one assistance with career planning needs such as resume reviewing, interview prep, job searching and applying.

People may drop-in or register for an appointment.

The Friday Morning Book Talk group will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 14, in the quiet room.

The group, sponsored by the Port Washington Senior Center, is for adults of all ages. Copies of this month’s featured book are available for check out at the library.

The D&D PW Bookwyrms group meets from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday in both the quiet and community rooms.

The group is for local game enthusiasts of all skill levels to participate in D&D or RPG sessions.

A Versiti blood drive will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 4.

The Novel Ideas Book Club will meet in the quiet room at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18.

The featured book is available for check out at the front desk.

The BYOBook Club meets at Inventors Brewpub at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27.

Those attending are asked to share the book they are reading or just finished, no matter the genre.

A program on family finances for new parents will be held in the community room at 6 p.m. Monday, April 24.

The program will be led by Northwestern Mutual financial representative Adam Reither, who will discuss how having a family can change income and expenses, managing long term goals, budgeting, investing, and college expenses, protecting income and estate planning.

Native Plants is the topic for an 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15, program led by Jill Kunsmann, who has created spaces of beauty in her yard that also provide a haven for butterflies, birds and other pollinators.

A Memory Café for people with memory loss and their caregivers and family will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 17.

“Discussion of The Ministry for the Future” by Kim Stanley Robinson is the topic for an evening book discussion at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the community room.

Vonna Pitel will lead the League of Women Voters of Ozaukee session.

An Earth Day celebration will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 20.

The Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory will host the celebration, which will include an investigation with live invertebrates and water critters from our local water sources, crafts, activities and learning opportunities.   

The Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory will have a tree giveaway in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22.

The trees are 2 to 3 years old and one to two feet tall.
