LETTER:Unbounded freedom delusion causes avoidable Covid deaths

There is a powerful destructive force pervading this country. It relies on the power of delusion to exist and feed itself.  The delusion is the idea that a family, village or country can exist and thrive with unbounded freedom; the idea that individuals can do whatever they want. The delusion relies on the gullible nature of some human beings.

Unfortunately, we have some leaders who themselves are delusional or are simply using the gullible nature of some to increase political power.

We see this in action in Florida by Gov. DeSantis, in Texas by Gov. Abbot and in other places where the health of citizens is put at needless risk.

I respect all human beings for their humanness, but I have no respect for those who allow themselves to be manipulated by leaders who rely on their gullibility to gain power.

The first rule of life is to do no harm.  We need to take care of ourselves and others. Those who don’t put themselves, their families and their communities at risk.  This isn’t space science. Anyone who has accomplished anything in life knows the importance of cooperation, without which nothing of value is accomplished.

Today, more than 95% of Covid deaths are people who decided to foolishly remain unvaccinated. What a shame. We are blessed to have a scientific community dedicated to promoting the health of all and who have developed a means to mitigate illness and death.

Please, don’t allow the delusion of unfettered freedom to control you. Get vaccinated. It’s the humane thing to do and deserves respect.
