LETTERS: Store supported vet volunteers

To Ozaukee Press:

I was surprised to walk into the Drews hardware store in Port Washington and see a veteran inside the store with poppies.

It was a nasty day outside.

The next day, I was back at the store and a lady was inside the store accepting poppy donations, even though it was a nice day outside.

I have volunteered several times in Thiensville at the post office.

A lot of smiling people gave generously.

Then a couple of years ago the postmaster decided he didn’t want us there anymore.

I understand he is a veteran, and I stopped by several times to talk to him.

He was either busy or not there.

Thanks to people like the owner of the Drews True Value store and people like him, poppy days will always be successful.
