LETTER: What are you getting for your vote? From the GOP, not much
To Ozaukee Press:
Return on investment is a performance measure used to evaluate the efficiency or profitability of an investment. One might say your vote for congressional representatives is an investment in your future outcomes.
The average U.S. worker, working 329 days a year, receives an annual income of $56,000, earned by their individual time, effort and energy.
Most congressional representatives, working only 156 days a year, receive an annual income of $174,000, paid by taxpayers. A snapshot of congressional work follows.
Democratic work:
A Covid rescue package; rejoined the Paris climate agreement and the World Health Organization; review of national security and foreign policies; reaching out to the EU for help on a China strategy; reconsideration of the Iran nuclear policy; revision of immigration reform.
Republican work:
Guided by House Leader McCarthy, the GOP seized the issue of promoting Dr. Seuss books and concern over cancelling Mr. Potato Head.
Wisconsin Republican work:
Ron Johnson stalled the relief package for the American people and businesses by forcing Senate clerks to read the Covid bill aloud for 11 hours; he then voted against the bill and against helping Americans during the Covid pandemic.
Glenn Grothman was quoted as saying the Black Lives Matter movement “doesn’t sound like the old-fashioned family.” His work ethic is derogatory, demeaning and discriminatory.
Voters should be wondering how their return on investment is working out.
