LETTER: Veterans’ advocate marches to milestone marking 100 years

To Ozaukee Press:

America’s largest veterans service organization, the American Legion, is celebrating its 100th birthday. The Legion was founded after the end of World War I, March 15-17, 1919, in Paris, France. It was formally chartered by Congress on Sept. 16, 1919, and quickly became an influential force.

The American Legion is the nation’s leading advocate for veterans, a strong national defense, children and youth and Americanism. It built a legacy with its efforts on behalf of the U.S. Flag Code, the Veterans Administration, the G.I. Bill, acceptance of Agent Orange exposure as a service-connected health issue and support for our nation’s troops in the war on terrorism.

Members of Landt-Thiel American Legion Post 470 in Saukville are proud to be part of this great organization. Thank you to the community for your support since 1946, the year Post 470 became an official entity of the American Legion.
