LETTER: Saukville letter carriers food drive

To Ozaukee Press:

 On behalf of the volunteers and clients of the Saukville Community Food
Pantry, I wish to express our gratitude to the residents of the Village and
Town of Saukville for their generous donations through the National Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Residents donated 2,600 pounds of food to our food pantry.

This will be of great help to our clients during the lean summer months ahead.
Our food pantry, like most across the nation, generally struggles each summer to ensure that there is enough food for the families we serve.

Most people are unaware that in the summer months the demand for food increases because children who take part in the reduced or free breakfast and lunch programs in school are home for three months and do not have access to alternative food programs. Food pantries nationwide see increases in the number of families we serve during summer when donations to food pantries are at their lowest.

Without the help of food drives such as the letter carriers’ many pantries would have a difficult time feeding those who need the help most.

So many thanks to all who have donated to food pantries.
