LETTER: Repair the Grafton dam and dredge river to avoid a swamp
To Ozaukee Press:
I am all for fixing up the gate hydraulic system and getting the Bridge Street Dam back in operation.
But, would it be possible to also dredge the lake (also known as the millpond) down six to eight feet deep from the dam north to, say, North Street or Hickory Street?
I know this would definitely increase the costs, but if we put the dam back in operation without dredging, Grafton wouldn’t really have a lake, but rather it would have a swamp thing.
If the gate failure has done anything, it has proven that we need to dredge all the sediment out, and make it a real lake again.
