LETTER: Razing of neglected Squires will be ‘last gasp of grand lady’

To Ozaukee Press:

When I read the article in last week’s Ozaukee Press about the plan to raze the Squires Country Club building, I had to take a drive to see for myself how the clubhouse looks now. What a surprise to see the place in such a state of disrepair. It seems there has been no care of the property or building whatsoever.

In its day, the clubhouse was like a grand lady where parties and weddings took place. My first-born daughter had her wedding there and a grand time was had by all.  My son-in-law and I played golf there.

It was a great place then because the people who ran it took pride in their work.  It appears that the Land Trust personnel don’t care. Now the former golf course is overgrown with more weeds and brush than anyone would care to see.

The razing will be the last gasp of a grand lady.
