LETTER: Pack meals, write a check, help feed world’s starving children
To Ozaukee Press:
On Nov 12-13, St. John XXIII Catholic Parish of Port Washington and Saukville will hold its Feed My Starving Children meal-packing event at Portal, Inc. in Grafton, and we are asking for help. Hundreds of volunteers will pack more than 100,000 nutritious meals for hungry children in the developing world. At the 2019 event, 538 volunteers packed 108,164 meals to feed children in Nicaragua.
We need to recruit at least 400 volunteers and raise $25,000 to pay the 25 cents-per-meal cost of the food used in the meals. There are two ways to help: by volunteering and making a financial contribution.
Adults and children 5 and over will measure and scoop ingredients, seal bags and prepare boxes for shipping. This is a wonderful team-building experience. Groups can register at http://give.fmsc.org/grafton. Two-hour packing sessions are available on Friday, Nov 12, and Saturday, Nov 13.
To help us meet our $25,000 goal, donations of any amount are appreciated. Donations may be mailed to: St. John XXIII,
1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington, WI 53074. Tax-deductable checks should be payable to FMSC, memo line MobilePack #2111-061SC.
In order to keep the clients at Portal, Inc who may be immunocompromised and the volunteer packers safe, masks will be required for the entire packing session (no neck gaiter coverings); temperatures will be taken and the usual symptom screening questions will be asked. Packing areas will be socially distanced (eight feet apart).
