LETTER: Obama ignored Putin, Trump praised him, Ukraine suffers
To Ozaukee Press:
There is an old saying that goes something like this: “Those who don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it.” We are seeing that being played out right now in Ukraine. The horrible images of dead civilians lying in the streets. Innocent children being murdered. All while the world watches and does nothing.
Yes, we are providing Ukraine with weapons and humanitarian aid, but we should have stood up to the bully that is Putin a long time ago. When he invaded the Crimea and annexed it, the Obama-Biden administration did nothing. Trump did nothing but tell us what a great guy Putin was. Now President Biden refuses to stand up to him.
The world didn’t stand up to Hitler in the 1930s and we had to go to war to stop him. World War III is a possibility that we all fear. Some of us remember when President Kennedy stood up to the Soviet Union in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the world stood on the brink of nuclear war.
Our current administration is destroying this country. We had energy independence, but Biden canceled the Keystone pipeline, which would have given us a secure source of oil from Canada. Instead, we were buying oil from Russia and now he asks our enemies for oil. We are going to have a crisis at our southern border. You remember, the border that four years ago Democrats said didn’t have a crisis. New numbers from immigration state that 64,000 immigrants got away in March from detention.
People, we need to wake up. We need to vote people out of office who are not doing the work of the people. Sen. Ron Johnson tells us to use mouthwash to kill Covid. He tells us that we have enough good paying jobs in Wisconsin and we don’t need anymore. Government is broke and we need to fix it.
We get that chance to fix government every two years. Pay attention to the issues and vote with your head not your party.
