LETTER: From nurse with Covid, a plea to forego right to refuse a shot

To Ozaukee Press:

I am a registered nurse and now have Covid-19.  

This disease continues to proliferate because it has a sufficient environment in which to thrive, allowing it to mutate into strains to which even vaccinated people are not immune.

There are still a number of people who continue to refuse to get vaccinated. When I discuss the issue with them, some cite fears of government conspiracies or alien interventions. For this small minority, their paranoia is real and cannot be alleviated with logic or scientific fact.

However, I find that most people refusing to get vaccinated are simply claiming they are asserting their personal freedom to choose to not be vaccinated. These people are educated and informed, and their decision to allow this disease to proliferate is intentional, whether politically motivated or not.  

To these people, I concede you do have the right to refuse the vaccine. Your point has been received. I do not want to diminish this right or propose taking it away. I am simply suggesting that this may be one of those times you choose to not exercise a particular right for the good of your family, neighbors, co-workers and society in general.
