LETTER: Man-made vaccines are best hope for Covid herd immunity

To Ozaukee Press:

I read with interest Genine Ganado’s letter to the editor in last week’s Ozaukee Press that Covid vaccinations are a joke and God-given immunity needs to take their place.

The Kaiser Foundation reports Covid-19 vaccines are highly effective at preventing severe disease, hospitalization, death and reducing likelihood of asymptomatic infection.

News Health reports people vaccinated are significantly less likely to spread the virus even if they become infected.

Doctors recommend yearly flu booster vaccination, so how is the Covid vaccine a joke?

When enough of the community is immunized against contagious diseases, other members are protected from infection. These herd immunities are man-made, not God-given.

Well-known evangelical Christian leader Franklin Graham urges vaccination, warning the pandemic is not over and the coronavirus will kill you. It is sad to see, hear and read the societal cost, including the fact that vaccinated elderly grandparents are now taking care of children left behind by unvaccinated family members.

The author of the letter stated she “stumbled upon” an Ozaukee Press editorial supporting efforts to encourage vaccination of nursing home staff members. With respect to protecting Americans, the letter’s recommendations are a big stumble.
