LETTER: Mainstream media at it again, this time punishing Joe Biden

To Ozaukee Press:

America’s economy rebounded from a 4% drop in 2020 to a 5.5% increase last year, outpacing Europe and China.

Around 250 million Americans are fully or partially vaccinated.

Holiday retail sales were the highest ever, jumping 8.5% from last year.

Unemployment is dropping like a stone.

Wages are hitting record highs.

Gas prices are 14 cents a gallon lower than in November.

These and other results during the first year of the Biden administration would have ordinarily had Americans optimistic and content. But not this time.

What’s the disconnect? A YouGov poll found that by a 6-1 ratio, Americans had heard mostly negative news stories about the economy. Another media study showed Biden getting worse coverage from the Beltway press than Trump did a year ago when a vaccine-less economy was being strangled by that president’s inept handling of the pandemic.

The sad part about this is a public that is either distracted and disengaged, or flat out not going to accept anyone but Trump, is failing to recognize the progress that is being made to their benefit.

You may be unhappy with Biden, but who would be foolish enough to reset and go back to the debacle in 2020?

What about inflation? Some are blaming government spending and ignoring thatVthis is a problem around the world. Think of the financial trench many Americans would have been in if the Biden administration hadn’t invested in keeping many on their feet and kickstarting a revived economy.

Yet the ingrates on the right keep accusing the media of being “liberal,” when all along, by magnifying the Biden administration’s stumbles and minimizing its successes, the press is pushing voters into the arms of an autocratic GOP that has proven itself unable to make the lives of Americans better.
