LETTER: Legislators: Act now to fund widely supported Cedar Gorge
To Ozaukee Press:
To the members of the Wisconsin Legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance:
I write in support of the Cedar Gorge Clay Bluffs land project in Ozaukee County and encourage the committee to fast-track the previously agreed upon state financing of $1.6 million.
Local community and county officials are in favor of this project. Citizens have worked diligently to raise private funds to carry the majority of the cost of acquisition. It is a project that is supported broadly among stakeholders in the region.
More importantly, the project is a win-win for business interests and increased revenues for the state, and will provide a wonderful natural preserve for residents to find joy and reprieve for their families. Interest in the preserve will attract tourism dollars that support jobs and a vibrant downtown district in Port Washington. Cedar Gorge will be a community asset that spurs higher property values and tax revenues, especially within surrounding real estate projects. And as we all are aware, natural settings provide comfort and value-laden recreational opportunities.
Sentiment among voters is aligned. The economics are positive. Your needed action is clear. Please move forward with the previously agreed-to funding on this strategic investment and asset for Wisconsin and the Ozaukee County community.
