LETTER: How will you pay next month’s rent? Coalition will try to help

To Ozaukee Press:

During these hard times, many Ozaukee County residents are asking: Where will next month’s rent come from? Where will I get my next meal from? How can I pay for a car repair?

Through funding by the United Way of Northern Ozaukee, community donors and HUD, we are providing emergency rent assistance to those in need. The agencies in our county that are members of our local coalition fighting homelessness by offering emergency rent assistance are Advocates of Ozaukee, St. Vincent De Paul, Salvation Army of Ozaukee County, Family Promise.

We expect a huge influx in calls in the near future. Our advice to distressed renters is: do not simply put your rent on hold because there is a restriction on evictions at this time; keep an open line of communication with your landlord; put what you can towards your rent now because we foresee very high demand that our agencies may not be able to meet. Call any of the above agencies for assistance, but remember resources will be limited, so please don’t rely on the eviction moratorium totally.
