LETTER: Gun control starts with legal gun owners acting responsibly
To Ozaukee Press:
Since 1990, there have been five instances of gun violence in Wisconsin schools. Human lives were endangered five separate times on school property by the actions of belligerent gun owners.
When safety expectations are not upheld in public schools, all citizens lose their rights to safety in firearm-prohibited zones. Columbine and Sandy Hook should not set precedents for our country.
As the rising face of our nation, children need guaranteed safety in order to grow, learn and become the people who will make America prosper. However, the work to make America better should begin with the older generations—the individuals for whom the purchase of firearms is legal.
Gun control starts with self control. When society learns how to conduct itself properly in accordance with state and federal regulations, complying with gun laws, responsibly acquiring and discharging weapons and following in the footsteps of that silent minority that has been doing this for years, we will not have any issues with gun control.
