LETTER: A Fredonia legend is gone, but wonderful memories remain
To Ozaukee Press:
I am writing to bring recognition to a true Fredonia legend, Ronny Schmit. I, like many others I’m sure, was surprised to hear of his passing. My sympathies go out to his wife and family.
Ronny was someone who was loved by everyone and, in turn, he loved everyone. Ronny knew everyone in town and always had a smile and a wave at the ready. If you approached him, he knew who you were. Heck, he knew who your parents were and had a story to tell on anyone.
I’ll never forget his bike sales and how impactful he was for our Little League program at Oak Park in Fredonia. When you think of baseball as a kid, you can’t help but place Ronny in that memory. My first baseball batting gloves were given to me by Ronny. I was so excited and thankful for those, I think I wore them every day that summer.
A Fredonia legend, indeed.
