LETTER: Equating airmen taking flak to Johnson’s antics mocks veterans

To Ozaukee Press:
    The writer of a letter to the editor in last week’s Ozaukee Press claimed Sen. Ron Johnson is right on target. Statements in this letter need re-examining.
    The national debt is Trump’s legacy, rising $7.8 trillion and making it harder for taxpayers to dig out.
    America’s biggest cities are investing $450 million more in police funding, including New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago.
    The CDC recommends vaccinations. Pharmaceutical companies provide data on effectiveness. Covid vaccines are available to everyone ages five and older at no cost.
    The senator’s judgment and speaking the truth are questionable. His spin includes gargling with mouth wash and taking an antiparasitic for livestock to prevent Covid, undermining America’s ability to save lives and end the pandemic.
    Johnson justifies the attack on the U.S. Capitol, leaving five dead and millions of dollars in damage. He supports electoral fraud conspiracies. He approved of Trump’s withholding of military aid to Ukraine now under siege with resulting death, destruction and family separations.
    Johnson pushed through tax law benefiting the wealthy, not the average Wisconsin citizen. He questions climate change, while his family owns a plastics manufacturing company. Plastics spew tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere increasing global warming, polluting Wisconsin’s waters and killing wildlife.
    On taxation, Wisconsin’s reliance on local service delivery, government use of property tax and limited local revenue options challenges the state’s financial resources. Multi-millionaire Ron Johnson pays less in Wisconsin tax than the average taxpayer.
        To equate and elevate Ron Johnson, with no biography of military experience, to combat veterans taking flak and being injured by shrapnel, as the letter writer did, is insulting to Wisconsin’s military members and disabled veterans.
    Voters need to choose wisely and not be dumbed down by political spin.
