LETTER: EPA plan to weaken pollution standards is public health risk

The League of Women Voters of the U.S. has submitted a comment on the Environmental Protection Agency proposal to rescind the 2009 Endangerment Finding on greenhouse gases (GHGs) and the Greenhouse Gas Vehicle Standards Rescinding this rule would leave American citizens unprotected from air pollution. The League strongly opposes the proposal, which would make Americans less safe, less healthy and less prosperous. 

The proposal disregards overwhelming scientific evidence that GHGs harm health. Instead, it relies on a flawed report that was rushed, unbalanced, and not peer reviewed. 

By combining rescission of the Endangerment Finding with vehicle standards, the proposal tries to covertly remove the legal basis for regulating GHGs from all sources, not just vehicles. 

The proposal ignores the ongoing transition to cheaper renewables, the trillions spent in response to climate disasters  and the risk of ceding economic advantages to China in renewables 

  The EPA’s mission is to protect human health and the environment. This proposal does the opposite.
