LETTER: Editorial inspired memory of 4-H pledge relevant to today

To Ozaukee Press:

I truly enjoyed your editorial about 4-H in last week’s Ozaukee Press. It brought back memories of my time as a member of Clover Leaf 4-H Club and how we would recite the 4-H pledge at the start of every club meeting: I pledge my head to clear thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service and my health to better living for my club, my community, my country and my world. 

I can only wish that we would all live by those words in these derisive and sometimes violent times. 

Also, on a more ironic note, the reference in the editorial to the photos in the Press of 4-H members and livestock made me go digging through boxes of photos and newspaper clippings to find the attached gem from 1957. (See photo below.)
