LETTER: Data center is good for Port despite wait for TIF payment
To Ozaukee Press:
I’ve been reading about the potential development of the large parcel of land
in the Town of Port Washington. The latest is a very large data center consisting of multiple buildings employing 50-80 employees each.
I think this is a good development for the city—greater tax revenue, no stress
on the schools. I don’t understand the objections. Yes, using a TIF will limit the tax revenue for 20 or so years, but it will boost growth in other areas.
Industrial development will come to our area. We need to accept that and should take every opportunity to take advantage of it.
Saying that, we should think a little bit out of the box concerning these industrial buildings. Why not put solar panels on the top of these large flat buildings to generate electricity to sell back to We Energies to reduce the cost of electricity to the city’s utility customers? Seems like a win for all residents
