LETTER: Citizens made clear they don’t want business on marina site

To Ozaukee Press:

Where are the customers of the proposed Inventors Brewpub in the Port Washington marina district going to park? Staff and guests could easily exceed 350. That means at least 175 vehicles that will need a place to park.

On a nice day it is common for the downtown parking lots to fill up with individuals going for a harbor walk and charter boat fishing. In addition, we have the patrons visiting the existing restaurants and businesses of the downtown area. It is already difficult on many days to find parking. Now the proposed brewpub, restaurant and event facility would take away parking and add demand.

This community had spoken and clearly communicated that it was not going to support a business in that location. The majority of city residents did not want a structure there. What makes the current business leaders and city officials think that it is now going to work? A restaurant business will not be successful without local regulars filling the seats on a nightly basis. Look at how many have come and gone over the past 20 years.

What if the citizens of our community stand fast to their decision to not support a business on this location? What happens if it fails? What moves into the location next?

Why not build on the open space just west of the parking lot? Work a deal for that and the development would likely gain more support. The business will obviously need all available parking if it plans on having events with 350 patrons.
