LETTER: Bill to clear records of minor offenders deserves support
To Ozaukee Press:
I am trying to promote the awareness of Senate Bill 39 and Assembly Bill 39 that can help reform the current Wisconsin expungement laws.
This is a bipartisan bill introduced by Senators Darling and Risser and Representatives Steffen and Goyke.
We all know someone who has been in trouble with the law and been convicted. This could be you or a family member. Some of these individuals have low-level offenses and are having a difficult time finding jobs, housing or getting student loans to better themselves.
These bills will give offenders a second chance by clearing their criminal record
so they can become productive members of the workforce and their communities.
Please educate yourselves on these bills and encourage your senators and representatives to vote for these reforms of our current expungement laws.
We all deserve a second chance.
