LETTER: Assert your rights on a special holiday by registering to vote

On Sept. 28, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day with a massive cross-country effort to register voters ahead of upcoming state and local elections. First celebrated in 2012, the day is a non-partisan holiday involving thousands of national, state and local organizations and volunteers working to promote voter registration. Last year alone, 1.5 million people registered to vote on National Voter Registration Day.

The League of Women Voters of Ozaukee County is part of this national effort to strengthen our democracy. Members will be at the following locations on Sept. 28 to provide voting information and assist with registration: Cedarburg Public Library, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; Grafton Public Library, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; UW-Washington County, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

In addition, volunteers will be at the Niederkorn Library in Port Washington Sept. 27, 3-6:30 p.m., and Sept. 30, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right—the right to vote.
