LETTER: On 99th birthday, Legion true to its veterans-support mission

To Ozaukee Press:

March 15 is the birthday of the American Legion, the largest wartime veteran’s service organization. Started by a group of war-weary veterans of World War I, the Legion was officially established by an act of Congress in 1919 and was instrumental in getting the original G.I. Bill through Congress and the creation of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The American Legion hosts fundraisers to assist disabled veterans, helps the homeless, conducts blood drives, supports Boy Scouts, awards scholarships, provides emergency aid to natural disaster victims, funds scholarships, promotes Americanism in our schools and supports law enforcement, fire service and emergency medical personnel.

The Landt-Thiel American Legion and Auxiliary Post of Saukville is proud to belong to this great organization.
