Lamb is among six Chinooks at MLD Showcase
This week, six Lakeshore Chinooks travel to La Crosse for Tuesday’s Major League Dreams (MLD) Showcase.
The event brings 100 of the top Northwoods League prospects together for a day of workouts capped off by an evening doubleheader played in front of Major League Baseball scouts.
Chinooks who are participating include Tommy Lamb of Grafton, Griffin Doersching, Tyler Kean, Mitch Mueller, Orlando Salinas and Ethan Vecrumba.
In nine appearances this summer, Lamb pitched 38 innings. The southpaw has an earned-run average of 4.03 with 31 strikeouts, tied for second on the Chinooks. His best performance came July 10 against the Kokomo Jackrabbits. In a shutout effort, Lamb threw 6-2/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out five.
Doerschin, the 2021 Northwoods League Individual Home Run Challenge Champion, enters the showcase with nine home runs on the season, the most in the Northwoods League, including two grand slams.
Hitting .262 in 34 games this summer, the recent Oklahoma State transfer has the second-most RBIs on the team with 26.
Doersching is the lone first baseman on the visiting team roster.
Kean joined the Chinooks late in summer and has pitched well out of the bullpen. He has yet to allow an earned run in five appearances.
The right-handed pitcher from Ohio State University has only allowed two hits to 30 batters. He is primarily used in relief, late in games.
Mueller uses his 89 to 92-mph fastball to blow past his hitters and leads the Chinooks with 35 strikeouts. Mixing in his off-speed pitches have kept batters confused as they hit .195 against Mueller.
The 6 feet, 4-inch Winona State University right-hander has the fifth-best ERA on the team of 2.92 in 11 games. He is 3-1 and has come out of the bullpen.
Salinas has only played three games for the Chinooks and has a 90% fielding percentage at shortstop. The Oklahoma State freshman has two hits in 13 at-bats.
Having only played 10 games last spring, the highlight of his season came against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff when he had two RBIs.
At 6-4 and 225 pounds, Vecrumba’s size plays to his advantage. The Indiana Hoosier has the third-highest batting average (.276) on the team with a minimum of 100 at-bats. He is second in home runs to Doersching with four.
Roaming the outfield, Vecrumba has converted on 31 of 33 potential outs, fifth-best among Chinook outfielders. His speed helps him both in the outfield and on the base paths. Vecrumba is tied for third on the team with six steals.
