Kurt “Dug” Gierach

Kurt “Dug” Gierach, 55, of Mequon unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 14, 2025, after a fatal snowmobile accident.

Kurt was born Aug. 28, 1969, to Ruth and Kenneth Gierach.

He graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1987.

Kurt followed in his father’s footsteps and had dedicated his 40-year career to his wonderful work family at Liesener Soils.

Kurt was a faith-filled man, and his light shined brightly with his actions of servitude as well as his silence. If there ever was to be a memoir written about this man, you would find there to be a continuous thread that has been woven within all our hearts in all the chapters of his life. This was revealed to us throughout all of the loving posts that we received from family and friends.

Kurt kindled relationships wherever he went without want or effort. He was the kind of guy who would walk into a place with two friends and leave with five more relationships that would last a lifetime. We all know that each one was unique in its own way.

Kurt was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He had so many interests, such as playing sheepshead, and always found a reason to celebrate and find time with his friends. He had a wide array of music genres, where he gathered with many.  He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, bowling, horseshoes, snowmobiling, watching sports and spending time with family and friends.

Most of all, when the snowflakes hit the ground, that was his cue to head out on the trails. He went to the Lord doing what he loved. Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Melissa (Going) Gierach; his cat Ivy; mother Ruth Gierach; brother Glen (Vicki) Gierach; sisters Sue (Rudi) Kloppmann and Nancy Gierach; nieces Caitlyn (John) Jelinski, Alisyn (Ian) Bell and Jenny (Chris) Elias; nephews Jason (Amanda) Kloppmann and Jordan (Beth) Kreutzer; niece Nicole Kreutzer; great-nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law Becky (Dick) Behrens, Cindy (Pete) Petric, Teresa (Devin) Hafemeister and Caralee (Jerry) Jacque.

He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Gierach and his beloved cats Milhouse and Moe.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, at 5 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Freistadt.  Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 2 to 4:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Wisconsin Human Society Ozaukee Campus are appreciated.

Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.muellerfuneralhome.com.
