KUDOS: In a tough year, school boards have earned a pat on the back

The Grafton School District is joining public school districts across the state to celebrate Wisconsin School Board Week Oct. 3-9 to honor local board members for their commitment to Grafton and its children.

It takes strong schools to build a strong community, and our board members devote countless hours to insure our schools are embodying the district’s mission of “Every Child, Every Day.”

They have had to work through extraordinary circumstances, particularly in the past year. They make tough decisions every month and spend many hours studying education issues and regulations in order to provide the kind of accountability our community expects. And while we make a special effort to show our appreciation this week, their contributions are definitely appreciated year-round.

 The School Board members serving our district and their years of service are: Board President Paul Lorge, 20 years; Vice President Carrie Walls, eight years; Clerk Jo Maehl, six years; Treasurer Mark Koehler, six years; Steve Nauta, five years; Jerry Rossi, five years; and Shawn Taylor, one year.

 Administrators and staff are sending personal thank you letters to board members and they encourage students, parents and community members to do the same.
