KUDOS: Outpouring of support made a ‘field of dreams’ come true

To Ozaukee Press:

As Thanksgiving approaches, we want everyone to know we are thankful for what so many have done to make our “field of dreams” come true and build the Matthew Malkowski Memorial Baseball Field at the Grafton Little League baseball complex. We give thanks to generous supporters in Grafton, the surrounding communities and all of Ozaukee County for helping us keep Matt’s memory and legacy alive for years to come.

It has been heartwarming and an honor to watch families come to the complex, forget about their busy lives, if only for a short while, and watch their kids play on Mattie’s field. We know that none of this would have been possible without the support of those who believed in our vision.

No matter how small or big the contribution to our project, we are humbled. We  especially thank our signature sponsors, 

Ansay & Associates, Mel’s Charities, Port Washington State Bank and the Grafton Little League, for what they have done and will continue to do for our son and brother.

There is still much to be done to complete the vision of the complex; more parking, water, restrooms and concession stands and so much more. It is hoped that one day when the facility is complete, not only will our local families enjoy the amazing grounds, but tournaments and playoffs will be offered to the Grafton Little League.

Editor’s note: The field is named in honor of Matthew Malkowski, who was a senior at Grafton High School and a member of its baseball team when he was killed in a car crash at the intersection of County Highway I and Pleasant Valley Road in 2010. The driver of the vehicle that struck Malkowski’s had a blood alcohol level three times higher than the legal limit and pleaded guilty to a homicide charge.
