Krechel resigns from School Board in order to coach soccer

John Krechel’s time on the Cedar Grove-Belgium School Board lasted about 17 months.

Krechel resigned last month to work for the district in a different capacity. He took over as boys’ head soccer coach.

He left the board so he wouldn’t indirectly be his own boss.

Krechel had coached youth soccer, basketball and baseball and was the Rockets’ varsity assistant the last three years.soccer 

“Serving on the board has been one of the more meaningful experiences of my time in the district. I’m sincerely grateful for the collaboration shared, and the collective commitment to doing what’s best for our students. It has been a privilege to contribute to that work alongside a fantastic School Board and administrators,” Krechel wrote in his resignation letter.

“Stepping away from the board is not a decision I take lightly, but it comes from a place of wanting to serve the district in the way I feel I can make the greatest impact right now.”

Former head coach Kyle Schultz moved north and is an assistant coach for the De Pere boys’ team.

Krechel is a certified executive coach who works remotely for an insurance company. He has an economics degree from St. Norbert College and a master of business administration degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. 

The School Board is seeking candidates to fill the vacancy. The term runs through April 4, 2028. Anyone living in the district may apply. Written and signed declaration of interest letters are due to the district office by 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14.
